ABOUT THE INITIATIVE

Forests of the Sea was born out of a spirit of adventure, exploration and love of kelp forests – and the realization that these incredible ecosystems were hugely under-appreciated, under-explored and under-protected. United by this realization Parley for the Oceans, Mission Blue, Rompientes, Seas of Good Hope, The Sea Forests at the End of the World and kelp forest explorers have come together to collaborate on a global program to protect these unique ecosystems using the tools of science, policy work and storytelling.

PARLEY FOR THE OCEANS

Founding partner of the Forests of the Sea

Parley for the Oceans is the space where creators, thinkers, and leaders come together to raise awareness for the beauty and fragility of our oceans and collaborate on projects that can end their destruction. Parley for the Oceans has initiated a global movement with a proven approach to solutions: the Parley AIR Strategy: Avoid. Intercept. Redesign. The Parley AIR Strategy is based on the principle that the responsibility lies in the hands of governments, the creative industries, major brands, the science community, and consumers. Since its inception in 2012, Parley for the Oceans partners include NASA JPL, the United Nations, Dr. Sylvia Earle, the World Bank, and leading marine science organizations.

MISSION BLUE

Supporting partner of Forests of the Sea

Led by legendary oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle, Mission Blue inspires action to explore and protect the ocean. Mission Blue is uniting a global coalition to inspire an upwelling of public awareness and support for a worldwide network of marine protected areas – Hope Spots

Mission Blue also embarks on regular oceanic expeditions that shed light on vital ecosystems and build support for their protection. Additionally, Mission Blue supports the work of conservation NGOs that share the mission of building public support for ocean protection. With the concerted effort and passion of people and organizations around the world, Hope Spots can become a reality and form a global network of marine protected areas large enough to protect and restore the ocean, the blue heart of the planet.
